Key Control and Resistance to Attack
The security of any locking system depends on two critical factors: physical strength against picking/drilling/forcing and controlling duplication of existing keys. The M line has countered these by the following:

  • Hardened steel inserts were added to protect the keyway, shear line and sidebar areas.
  • Biaxial locks employ offset chisel-pointed pins to make picking virtually impossible.
  • M line keys must be cut on special key cutting machines that reproduce the angled cuts to match the Biaxial chisel point pins.
  • Every M li ne key blank is accounted for and its release controlled by the factory and marked for end-user identification.
  • We will process extra key orders only with an authorized signature.

Key Retaining vs. Non-Key Retaining Lock Function
The M line standard operation is a key retaining function (captive), which means that the operating key can be removed in the locked position only; therefore, the lock cannot be accidentally left in the open/unlocked.
M locks can also be supplied as non-key retaining (non-captive), which allows the key to be removed in both the locked and unlocked position.

Designer Note: For true captive operation, the use of our captive key locks must be coordinated with sliding door showcase design. The use of non by-passing sliding doors is recommended to restrict door movement and ensure key removal only when the doors are in the secure position.
